Punk / Indie Cornucopia

Two very different various artist compilations for your consideration this week.

1985’s The Blasting Concept – Volume 2 shows SST Records in retreat from it’s pre-eminent Cali hardcore punk roots (to the dismay of punk and SST fanboys everywhere) and moving towards a very uncertain musical future.

Released in 1993, Genrecide: A Compilation Vol. One, features songs from Columbia Records stable of hip-hop, alternative and grunge artists. Groups like Suede and Alice In Chains help to

“define the growing grunge and Brit-pop movements of the time”

while The Darling Buds and Ned’s Atomic Dustbin are emblematic of an intensely hyped alternative music scene. All in all

the time-capsule nature of Genrecide, recalls a period when major-label funded “alternative” music seemed like a viable proposition.

That is a band I think you might like, and I think kinda fits your blog. It is their new ep leak, I included the cover and everything. You should check it out and post, if you think your readers will like it, I like the stuff you put on your blog and I love this, so I assume others will!

Their name is Darling’s Cabinet of Sundry Horror, and its kind of like gothic folk/protopunk/indie/circus music, For fans of the birtday party and the violent femmes, and maybe even marilyn manson or Tom waits.
