At the age of 16 Glenn Phillips began playing guitar and at 17 he co-founded the Hampton Grease Band. By 1973 the Grease Band had broken up. Phillips began his solo career in 1975 with the release of his first record, Lost at Sea. Echoes: 1975 – 1985is a compilation of his first seven solo records.
